What to do in case of eye injury?

Timely treatment of an injured eye can be the key factor between the occurrence of a mild injury or serious, permanent visual impairment.

The above tips will help in case of eye injury.

If your eyes come into contact with chemicals:

  1. Remove your contact lenses immediately, otherwise they can “trap” chemicals in your eye, causing pain and injury.
  2. Immediately rinse the eyes with cold water, let the rinsing last for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Seek immediate medical attention

If a foreign body gets into your eyes:

  1. Do not rub your eye!! Remove contact lenses if you wear them
  2. Lift and twist out the upper eyelid and pull down the lower eyelid. This causes tearing that can wash the foreign body out of your eye. Repeat this several times.
  3. If there is no result, try rinsing your eyes with water.
  4. If the object is not removed from the eye, seek medical help immediately.
