Frequently asked questions

Can I wear soft contact lenses if I have astigmatism?

Certainly. There are various types of soft contact lenses for correcting astigmatism. There are daily, biweekly and monthly astigmatic contact lenses from different manufacturers, so you can choose the best option according to your needs. If one manufacturer did not suit you, it does not mean that others will not, this is possible due to the different technical design of the stabilization of these contact lenses

Can contact lenses go behind the eye?

NOT! The membrane we call the conjunctiva prevents the contact lens from moving behind the eye. If it happens that you don’t notice the contact lens, it could be hidden behind your upper or lower eyelid or it fell out unnoticed. This situation is not dangerous. It is necessary to put the contact lens back in place. If this does not work, seek help from your ophthalmologist or optometrist.

Can I use makeup while wearing contact lenses?

Yes. It is necessary to make sure that the contact lens and makeup do not come into contact, so that the contact lens does not become dirty and uncomfortable in the eye. If your eyes are sensitive, there is a certain makeup that is intended for contact lens wearers. The rule with make-up is; always put on and take off the contact lenses first so that they get as little dirty as possible.

How long does it take to get used to contact lenses?

Although it is individual, most wearers get used to it quickly, and within 15 minutes they stop feeling the contact lenses in their eyes. Some may need a few days, but in a small percentage.

How often should I change lenses?

It depends on the type of contact lenses you use. You should definitely follow the manufacturer’s instructions written on the declaration. There is the option of daily replacement, to use new sterile contact lenses every day, 14-day replacement, you replace your contact lenses every 14 days. Monthly replacement, to replace your contact lenses every 30 days. There is also the option, which in practice is slowly being phased out, of replacing contact lenses every 90 days or 365 days.

I have problems with allergies and contact lenses, what should I do?

It is recommended that if you wear contact lenses at the time of allergy, you should wear daily contact lenses so that you put in new, clean, sterile contact lenses every day so that they do not have an allergen on their surface that would irritate you immediately after putting them on. Also, if for some reason you cannot wear daily contact lenses but contact lenses with a longer replacement period, it is recommended that you use a peroxide-based liquid and not an all-in-one liquid in order to clean the contact lenses better. Be sure to consult with your ophthalmologist or optometrist about how to use contact lenses during the period when you have allergy problems.

Can I swim with contact lenses?

Yes, but under certain conditions. As the contact lens must not come into contact with water because the contact lens can absorb various microbes and other impurities from the water that can cause inflammation. It is necessary to wear a mask or protective goggles for swimming to prevent contact between water and contact lenses. It doesn’t matter if it’s a sea, a river, a pool, a lake or not. The same rule applies to everyone.

Can I wash contact lenses with water?

A BIG NO! Contact lenses must not come into contact with water or any other liquid that is not intended for contact lenses. There are dangerous microorganisms in the water, and one of the most dangerous is the parasite Acantomeba, which can cause severe inflammation of the cornea if it is not treated in time. In certain cases, it can even cause blindness. Therefore, once again, BIG DOESN’T lead.

Can I wear contact lenses while training?

It could even be said that it is desirable. With contact lenses, you get a larger field of vision, they don’t fall off your head like glasses, which means that you can always see clearly what is important. You can also wear sunglasses over contact lenses for outdoor sports, so the light doesn’t bother you.
There are sports contact lenses that improve contrast and perception of image depth (spatial vision). You can wear such contact lenses regardless of whether you have diopter or not.

Can I borrow contact lenses from a friend?

No! Contact lenses are for personal use and are a medical product. First of all, for hygienic reasons, it is not good to share contact lenses, and secondly, there are various parameters of contact lenses that do not have to suit your friend, so such contact lenses can cause him some injury. It doesn’t matter whether they are dioptric contact lenses or cosmetic, i.e. colored contact lenses.

Can I wear colored contact lenses if I have no diopter?

Yes. Before the first use, regardless of whether you do not have diopters, it is necessary to consult a contact specialist (ophthalmologist or optometrist) about wearing such contact lenses and have an examination, because even such contact lenses, if not worn correctly, can cause injuries.

From when can a child wear contact lenses?

A child may wear contact lenses from birth, but only under the supervision of an ophthalmologist. It is worth noting that studies have shown that children who use contact lenses have more self-confidence and make friends more easily, and also better adhere to the instructions for using contact lenses than adults who were given them at the examination. Therefore, parents, don’t be against it, contact lenses are safe if children follow the instructions and are regularly checked by an ophthalmologist.

Are contact lenses safe?

They are if you wear the contact lenses correctly, as written in the instructions, and if you go for regular check-ups so that your eyes can be checked regularly and reacted if necessary.

Why can't I sleep with contact lenses?

It is not entirely true that you should not sleep with contact lenses. There are a small number, but a specific type of contact lenses that can be slept with. We call this method of wearing contact lenses Extendet wear. If you did not ask for this type of contact lenses, you most likely did not get them, so do not sleep with your contact lenses. During sleep, the contact lens dries in the eye and sticks to the cornea, and when you take it out when you wake up, moving such a contact lens can damage your cornea as if you had cut it, which is painful.
Also, such a dried contact lens changes its parameters, so it does not allow oxygen to reach the eye, which can again cause eye injury.
If you want to wear contact lenses that you can sleep with and do not have to take them out of your eye for up to 30 days, consult your contact specialist (ophthalmologist or optometrist) about contact lenses for extended wear (extendet wear).

What is the difference between soft, hard and semi-hard contact lenses?

The difference is in the type of material. Soft contact lenses are gelatinous, flexible. Adaptation is easier to such contact lenses. They are made of hydrogel (DK= 35) or silicone-hydrogel (DK=135).

Hard contact lenses are hard to the touch and are made of PMMA material. Hard contact lenses do not allow gases (oxygen DK=0) and are therefore gradually being replaced by semi-hard contact lenses.
Semi-hard contact lenses, the correct name is hard gas-permeable contact lenses. They are made of modern polymers. Such contact lenses have a high gas permeability (oxygen, essential for the eye, DK= 145). They are also hard to the touch. A slightly longer period of getting used to it is required due to the hardness of the contact lens itself.

Can I combine contact lenses and glasses?

Certainly. Some contact lenses cannot be used all day so that the rest of the day to see you can wear your glasses without any problems.

I have two glasses, far and near, are there any contact lenses for me?

It exists. We can solve this with multifocal contact lenses with which you can see well at all distances (it works differently than progressive glasses). We can also solve this with another method, the application of contact lenses for distance (with which you can see well far away), and you use reading glasses over them.

Why do I need to clean my contact lenses?

Fats, proteins, microorganisms, etc. accumulate on the surface of contact lenses. All this can affect poor vision and infection of your eye, and you don’t want that because then you can’t wear contact lenses. By cleaning the contact lens, we remove deposits and thus prevent eye infection and blurred vision. Cleaning is never 100%, so contact lenses must be replaced with a new pair after the prescribed period to avoid various inflammations.

Which contact lenses are the best?

There is no correct answer. Which contact lenses are right for you will depend on many factors, how often you plan to wear contact lenses, what your tear film is like, what your eye is like, what diopter you have, what you do, i.e. what type of work you do and in what conditions you work (humidity, climate, dust, etc.). There’s a lot more that determines which contact lens is best for you, and that doesn’t mean it will be best for your friend. You should consult a contact specialist (optometrist or ophthalmologist) about the type and purpose of your contact lenses.

Why do I have to change contact lenses when they are still good for me?

Contact lenses, like any other product, have their shelf life, which means that the contact lens has a shelf life until it meets the conditions for safe use. Although you do not feel any discomfort, it does not mean that the contact lens does not harm after the expiration date. The most important thing is that various microorganisms accumulated on the contact lens can cause infections. The contact lens no longer allows enough oxygen through its material, therefore the eye, i.e. the cornea does not get enough oxygen to function normally. Also, contact lenses lose their built-in moisturizers, so there is greater friction and poorer vision, which you don’t have to feel and notice right away, and that is harmful. Over time, with such irresponsible wearing of contact lenses, the eyes become more sensitive, inflammations tend to recur, contact lenses cannot be comfortably worn for 10 hours anymore, and the time period of wearing contact lenses decreases and vision is worse.

Why do I have to come for check-ups?

First and foremost, it is necessary to come for a check-up in order to regularly check your eyes and react in time if you have a problem. Also, so that something else could be recommended to you because your life changes (work, medication consumption, age, dioptres, eye humidity, etc.), so in a certain period of your life one method of use and type of contact lens may be better suited and used than the contact lenses you are currently using.

I wore contact lenses once and gave up. Will the new ones fit me now?

You should definitely try again. The contact lens industry is evolving and every year we get new products to meet wearer demands and make contact lens wearers more satisfied. We have new materials, new liquids, daily contact lenses for sensitive eyes for people who have problems with allergies, a wider range of diopters, multifocal contact lenses (for people who wear glasses for far and near). Most problems can be solved with contact lenses.

Why is it important to store contact lenses in solution?

The care solution in which you put the contact lenses contains a mild but effective dose of disinfectant. Keeping your contact lenses in solution helps remove residual bacteria and protein deposits from your contact lenses, so they are clean and hygienic when you put them in your eyes.
