The eye cavity or orbit (lat. orbit) is bounded by bones that surround the eye from all sides except the front, thus mechanically protecting it.
Bones that border the eye cavity:
- frontal bone – roof
- nasal bone – medially
- cheek bone -laterally
- upper jaw – bottom
In the bones there are cavities and channels through which nerves, arteries and veins reach the eye.
The orbit is filled with the eyeball, muscles, fatty tissue, lacrimal gland and blood vessels and nerves.
