How to properly use soft contact lens care solution

Why is it important to store contact lenses in solution?
The care solution in which you put the contact lenses contains a mild but effective dose of disinfectant. Keeping your contact lenses in solution helps to remove any remaining bacteria and protein deposits from your contact lenses, so they are clean when you put them in your eyes.

The multipurpose solution cleans, rinses, disinfects and preserves soft contact lenses and protects the eyes from dryness and irritation during the day.

Cleaning
Place a few drops of the solution on the surface of the contact lens and gently rub each side from the center to the edge for a minimum of 10 seconds.

It is important to note that some manufacturers recommend that contact lens wearers rinse the contact lenses with regular tap water after cleaning. Tap water contains some eye-harming microorganisms such as Acanthamoeba. Acanthamoeba infection is very rare, but when it occurs it most often leads to corneal loss. Therefore, to wash soft contact lenses, use a care solution or physiological solution, intended exclusively for washing lenses.

Rinse
Rinse each side of the contact lens with the solution for at least 5 seconds to remove all traces of dirt.

Disinfection

Put the contact lenses in the appropriate lens container. Fill both containers with fresh multipurpose solution. Close the container. Leave the contact lenses in the container for at least 6 hours to complete the disinfection process.

Intensive cleaning
Soft contact lens solution is formulated to remove protein deposits from the contact lens during cleaning and disinfection. Removal allows the contact lenses to be smooth and improves wearing comfort. If protein deposits are large, intensive protein cleansing may be necessary. A contact specialist (ophthalmologist, optometrist) will advise you if it is necessary to use tablets for protein removal.

Keeping
Contact lenses in an unopened container and in a multipurpose solution can be stored for up to 30 days. After this period, the cleaning and disinfection procedure must be repeated before placing it in the eyes.
